Restore windows instantly:Reboot Restore Rx

You received an attachment to your email named a free screen saver application.

Wow neat a free screen saver and your first impulse is to install it immediately (What can possibly go wrong), you clicked it to install then all hell breaks loose

Task manager no longer works, most of your files are either locked or hidden, and many of your application including your antivirus no longer works. This is often the case with most virus related problems in windows.

You now have to either try to fix it using an anti virus, or do a clean installation which is really a big pain (especially to the poor IT guy you will probably push this problem to).

You can now avoid all this hassle by installing the free software Reboot Restore Rx
(windows xp and above)

1. Install the software

2. It will now create a restore point.

3.Disable the Restore on Reboot option from the system tray icon. If you have disabled the system tray icon, you will need to launch it manually if you do not want to loose all your data upon restart (You have been warned)

4. Right-click the system tray icon again and select Restore on Reboot if you want to create a new restore point.

5. If you ever need to restore your system, restart the pc, press "Home" key when the Reboot Restore Rx screen is shown upon boot up

6. Select Restore Now (Warning! You will loose all changes done after the creation of the Baseline)

7. Done

(Extra option > give me beer money as thanks)

Here is the product description from their web page.

Reboot Restore Rx

Reboot Restore Rx prevents any changes made on your drive(s) by restoring a saved baseline every time the PC boots up.
It is designed for small public access computing environments such as classrooms, libraries, kiosks, and internet cafes.
Even when users download files, viruses, malware, or even try to delete registry keys, Reboot Restore Rx will restore the PC back to your desired state.

The Punchline is Machismo:Webcomic

Do you want to see a webcomic where Kratos Blades of Chaos gets stuck inside Wolverines Adamantium Ribs, or see a giant Gyrados eat a bunch of cute Pokemons including pikachu. If the answer to  both question is yes then you will definitely love "The Punchline is Machismo" by coelasquid.

I apologize if the content is a little mature but I believe there is a moral lesson here somewhere if you look past at the blood.

It is a really good webcomic where we can learn a thing or two regarding stereotypes, and come on they have both Kratos and Logan in a single panel what more can you ask.

Autoruns: Check what software automatically run during windows startup

If you ever owned a computer with a windows on it, most likely you noticed that as the time goes on it seems to be slower than when it was new.

The reason is because as we try to install new applications for work or play it often comes with a few extra software that is not really that clean and leaves questionable software to automatically run during startup.

You are now left with two choices, reinstall the whole system or try to clean it so that it can still be usable.

Disabling these software that runs automatically is one of the few ways to speed up your unit.

Warning: disabling critical software during boot up might cause your system to be unstable, so create a backup first of your registry first (Erdnt) before proceeding (Google first the process name if unsure),

You can download Autoruns here

Here is the description of Auto runs from its official website

Introduction

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and when you start various built-in Windows applications like Internet Explorer, Explorer and media players. These programs and drivers include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. Autoruns reports Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond other autostart utilities.
AutorunsHide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system. Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc.
You'll probably be surprised at how many executables are launched automatically!

Macrium Reflect: Live backup for windows

Having worked in this industry for so long I have a personal saying ,"Always have a backup, always".  You might say that the grammar is wrong or the wording is redundant but that is the point. You really need to have redundant backup or else you might just suffer a panic attack when "the shit hit's the fan".

Creating image backup is easy, just boot in a free version of clonezilla and do your backup, but working with users is often hard. There are many people who refuses to let you shut down their computers as they often have mission critical systems and any downtime will have an effect on the company's productivity.

Fortunately there is a free way to backup a Windows machine with out having to reboot  the unit called Macrium Reflect free.

Backup is simple just run the program and indicate where you would like to place the image backup (preferably in an external drive) and wait for it to finish and you just created for your self a nice little insurance for your self.

Here is the description from their site
