MotorCycle Alarm: Calls you when someone moves your bike

The idea  is hook up 1 old cellphone to your motorcycle and it will call you if someone moves it.

This is an instructable that I have always wanted to try but can't seem to start. As a motor cycle owner myself I know this type of alarm will be useful especially now where incidents regarding theft are starting to become more and more common.

From instructables.com by simon72post

I got fed up with normal alarms making a lot of noise, and no one taking any notice of them any more.
Also not knowing if anyone had messed with my bike because I was to far away to hear the alarm.
So I decided to make this alarm using an old mobile phone and a simple timer circuit.
The basic principle is if the motorbike is moved it will trigger a timer circuit,
which will send a 3 second pulse to a mobile phone, which will phone me to let me know that something has moved my bike.
This project is not just for a motorbike, It could also be altered you warn you about anything you want.
ie house, shed, car.

Silent Library

Another you tube video I liked. This is a japanese game show where if you laugh you will be punished. This  is called silent library where they each choose a card and the person who gets the odd card gets punished in a place where silence must be observed  like hospitals or library.

I sometimes watch this show trying not to laugh but its so damn hard.

Connie Talbot:This is how you melt a frozen heart

Many says Simon has a frozen heart and some might even argue that doesn't have one, but this video shows that he does. To melt it you just need the right girl for the job and her name is Connie.

I know this is old but I like this so here it is.

Deleted a file by accident Try Restoration

Restoration Screenshot

If you ever deleted a file and needed it back then why the heck did you delete it (just kidding). Every once in a while a file or worst a whole folder or even worst a whole partition get's accidentally deleted by you or intentionally by others (yikes).

Fortunately there are free software out there that sometimes get them back (depends on "how" and "when" was the file deleted. One of them is Restoration.

Pc infected: Try Super Antispyware Portable

Not meant to replace your current antivirus but it serves as a means to clean your Pc and set up or replace, upgrade or update your current Protection.

Does a good job at cleaning stupid viruses that gives IT  / Tech support something to do which generates countless jobs and  provides income for anti virus companies.. wait what I meant was,  they destroy data and system security, yes that's it, that's what I meant.

Teracopy: Copy files fast

Ever tried copying a couple of gig of files for backup leaving the computer on over night and thinking it will be done when you get back, only to find out the next day that windows copy encountered an error from the first few files and did not copy at all.

Or when it did made a copy but encountered an error in the middle of process and you don't know  which files where copied and which were not. Do you just recopy for a couple of hours or just find out which files were and copy them manually one by one.

To avoid such trouble why not try using Teracopy. A program that will replace the default windows copy and does a much better job at it too.

How to Write protect a Usb flash drive

Usb flash drives are so common and so convenient today but why did they make the data in them so fragile. Plug it on virus infected computer and say good bye to all your data, well not really, some can still be usable but is trying to open a few files worth the safety of the many folders inside and the health of your pc.

Have you ever tried fixing an infected Pc with the antivirus installed on the usb. Good luck with that, it's like trying to stop the spinning blades of a blender with a carrot.

It just make sense that sometimes you want your usb to be write protected. Some vendors do sell usb drives abroad with a write protect switch but they are not really common or available here.

Fortunately there are ways to write protect a common usb drive. The method that I will show is the one that worked best for me.

Are you tired of typing the same things over and over try: Autohotkey

I did mention in one of my previous post that if there was an easier way of doing things I probably would be doing it, well autohotkey is one of those tools that reduces repetitive typing and tedious ways of running applications. Warning this requires a little bit of coding but it is relatively easy and well worth the effort

TrueCrypt: Data Encryption

In this day and age information can easily be shared ,stored copied and posted to  every nook and cranny of the internet.May it be a video, document or a picture its very hard to protect one's privacy if it manage to be leaked to the web. Everyone has something they don't want others to see, may it be an account to your bank or pictures when you were drunk, not all information is meant to be shared.

If you want something to protect your files why don't you try TrueCrypt. One of the best free encryption program available today.

Drop Box: For on the cloud backup

Backup is a word you always hear while working with computers. Everybody has important files we want to protect whether it be a confidential file from  a corporate work or the pictures of our families and friends.

But what does it mean to have a backup, many people are content with making a copy of the folder that they want to protect on the same Pc but speaking from experience that is not very safe. Your files will be gone from a single virus attack, theft, fire or some hard disk failure, and believe me its not a question whether your hard disk will fail but a question of when.

If your files are really important, don't backup on the same computer but on the internet using Dropbox.

ERDNT: Registry backup

You always hear always backup your registry but nobody tells you how to do it. Erdnt is one way and it saved me countless of times.Just run it as administrator and it will backup your registries every time you boot your computer. It can even restore registries for off line drives by just editing the inf file where it points to your windows directory.

Ex. Set your broken windows drive as a slave to another computer. On the erdnt backup folder of the slave drive (located by default in windows\erdnt\autobackup) folder choose what backup you want to use . Edit the inf file pointing to the windows directory by using notepad

from c:\windows change to newdrive:\Windows\ then save

run it as administrator and you can restore your registry good as new or as good as what ever backup you used.

Download Erdnt

CCleaner or Crap Cleaner: Does what the title says

Working with computers is sometimes a jumbled mess. Files are being added without your knowledge. Software or even viruses try to install and run every time you boot your computer and even for seasoned computer veterans, they can be a hassle to work with. Fortunately there are many great tools  to maintain a clean pc and one of them is ccleaner. It really does what its name stands for and does really cleans up crap and best of all it's free.

It can delete unneeded files, browsing history, manage startup programs and decrapify (is that even a word) your registry.

VLC media player for Windows

Saw a video of a cat playing the piano from your favorite site and immediately you know that this is the best thing ever since the invention of the internet. You decided to download it so you can show it to your friends so they can also be blessed by such an event but alas when you tried to open it you get an error from your player saying it cant open the file blah blah blah..

You can try to make it work by downloading the correct codecs from the internet but it is just too much a hassle even for this glorious video.

Locate 32: Find files fast even for fat32

An alternative for Everything. It find files fast even fat32 drives and it still beats the default search engine. You can even use it for remote shared folders on your network. Unlike Everything who does things on the fly, locate32 must update its database of your files (It can be scheduled to be done automatically) but unless you constantly move your files around, it's not much of an issue. Also as i have said it can handle fat32 drives so It handles files just as quick as Everything but does not suffer from it's limitation that it only works for ntfs.

For me Locate32 and Everything works hand  in hand I use them both to cover each others limitations and I can say they both work very well.

Download Locate32

Process Explorer: Task manager alternative

If you are a windows user aside from explorer and Internet explorer, Task manager is one of the most commonly used built in windows applications because you know your using windows.

Some times applications, processes and even windows itself decides on their own for no reason at all that they don't want to work any more and freezes the system. They can be manually terminated or restarted by using task manager.

It can also be used to stop some viruses from wrecking havoc inside the system and allowing them to be manually deleted after stopping their process first, that is why most malwares tries to disable task manager as it is a critical part of windows protection.

Process Explorer is a good task manager alternative if you are already infected with such a virus and your Task manager disabled.

STEXBAR:Filter files in Explorer

Have you ever wanted to filter files in explorer. If you just want to find a file you know is inside a folder you must click on a file, blindly type the exact beginning of the file name quickly to see if you get lucky, look for it one by one or just use the default search engine even though you know your file is there.

An easier way is to try Stexbar, an explorer plugin that simply filters all the files in explorer by typing part of the name you are looking for.

Everything: Find files in your computer fast

Want to find an old picture, file or document, You can try the default search or you can try Everything. It will find your file faster than you can type the name of the file you are looking for. After Installing it give it a little time to catalog your files not in minutes but just seconds then find away. This is a great program and the only flaw I can say about it is it does not work on fat32 flash drives and disk drives but other than that this really is a good alternative in finding your files.

Download Everything

TiddlyWiki: a personal wiki notebook

Like keeping notes on your computer but sucks at finding them once you need them. Try tiddlywiki it organizes all your notes, ideas or web snippets on a single html file and you don't even need to be online.

You can store it on a flash drive, your computer or email it to your self as a backup so that you can open it when ever you are online. I keep all my how to's there when I need to remember things or procedures that are just too tedious to commit to memory or things I simply can't remember or forgotten. Also when ever I find things of interest like good websites (many bookmarks have been lost to a single virus or reformat), Programs, a tutorial or just any bit of information like birthdays or reminders I would likely put it in my own tiddly. The search feature is awesome.

Launchy: Launch application with ease

I'm a lazy person so if there is a way I can do things easier I will find a way to do it even if the effort is not worth the trouble and  it would have been much easier just to do things manually. Not in the case of lauchy, an open source application launcher for windows.
